Hey has anyone read the books by that 14 year old guy, about Erigon and the dragon. I am on the second one, it is so good.
Yeah I've read the first three books and there is supposed to be one more. I hope he finishes the series. My favorite chars are Saphira, Arya, and Angela.
I agree. I was impressed with the series so far. I hope the final installment comes out soon, although the fact that the Alagaesia web site seems to be down is a bit perplexing. Hopefully it's just technical difficulties. And as is usually the case the books are far better than the one movie. I mean granted I did enjoy the movie but probably only because I saw it before reading the book. I bet even I could probably have done a better job with that or at the very least been more faithful to the story. I mean Slone was only too happy to betray Eragon to the Ra'zak. They didn't need to torture him the way they did in the movie. But that's the way HOllywood is. THey have to add suspense and angst to everything. Even though I loved and still love the Lord of the RIngs films with a passion I definitely didn't like how they portrayed Aragorn. He may have felt some guilt about Isildur's weakness to the ring but he never renounced his claim to the kingship because of it. And then there was the matter of faramir, whom Tolkien stated both in the books and apparently in some of his letters and writings that Faramir wouldn't have taken the ring even if he'd found it lying by the side of the road somewhere, so I didn't agree with how Peter Jackson portrayed him. Nor did I entirely like the way Stephan Fangmire (Sp?) portrayed most of the characters in Eragon.
while I like the Inheritance series, if one were to read the books very carefully, they would see that they are of a sort, a total knockoff from the star wars movies.
consider: a kid living with his uncle. Kid finds a new power (like Luke finding the force) his uncle dies (just like Luke's). I won't spoil the end of the second one, but he finds out that someone is his father. You'll see who I'm sure in due time. He loses his sword (just like Luke lost his lightsaber in the empire strikes back) etc etc. Some of the claims were countered in the third book, but again, I do not want to spoil it for anyone, so you'll just have to read them for yourselves. I could point out several other instances of similarities between the two serieses. It shouldn't discourage you from reading Inheritance however. It was a good series in its own right and personal universe.
I love this series as well!
My fav characters are Arya, Saphira, and Murtagh, who is not evil!
I love every character actually, those are just the main ones!
I also have a new love/respect for Nasuada after the Trial of the Long Knives.
I hope book four comes out soon, though I have to finish reading Brisingr first, I'm right now at the part where Eragon needs a asword and is talking to Fredric, the Varden's weaponmaster. I can't wait to finish it!
It was well worth it as far as I'm concerned, although I do sometimes find the Elves to be too preachy. It seems that if you want to be a Rider it's their way or the highway. As for Murtagh I always liked him, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Brisingr is dragging on and on, I just want it to finish...
True, it is a long book. But that's why he ended up deciding to make it a Cycle instead of a trilogy as he originally intended. Speaking of which I hope nothing's happened seeing as the Alagaesia web site has been down for quite a long time now.
I follow shurtugal.com on twitter, and the site is updating. They have a newish interview with Paolini.
I'm not a twitter user myself. To be honest I find the whole thing just the teensiest bit riddiculous...
I can totally see your point, but it's useful for websites/actors to update without using a huge amount of space.
Besides I didn't find it accessible with Window-Eyes and I refuse to go back to JAWS unless perhaps it's for a job, and only then if it's absolutely the only way to do the work successfully.
As for the books though, I hope they keep the same narrator for the audiobooks. THere's nothing more off-putting than getting the latest book in a series which has up to then been read by one narrator only to have the new booknarrated by someone less able to capture the mood of the story. As for the story itself I'm curious to see what Galbatorix has in store for Eragon now that he's lost two Shades and the Ra'zak.
agreed!
I hate that too. I think Jerard Doyle did a good job though.
That's what I'm saying. I really liked him.
Well, I've only read the first one and as for the story, it was okay, but I liked the movie better. Maybe, it was because I read it in braille, which I usually prefer, but whoever did the braille copy for this book either didn't pay attention to the print and do the braille correctly, or the print wasn't proofread and there were a alot of grammar and especially spelling errors when it was brailled. I did contact the company that did the brailling of the book, but no response from them. Maybe, I'll try the next one on audio or something. I thought there were going to be only 3 in the complete series, as there has never been a mention that I know of another one.
I've read them all in Braille, maybe this is why Brisingr is dragging on so?
Yes, originally Chris Paolini was just going to make three, but he decided after publishing Brisingr that there still were some loose ends to tie up.
Progress for Book 4 is slow though. I think it will not be long now though, if he follows his 2-3 year pattern...
I hope you're right. As for the movie I liked it but I strongly suspect only because I saw it first. I didn't care for most of the actors, nor how unfaithful they were to the book.
I thought the movie was horrid, probably because I read the first two books first. I couldn't even watch the whole thing, it was so bad!
I think they screwed up the ending so badly, making an Eldest movie would be impossible!
I think they did that deliberately just so they wouldn't have to make anymore movies. I mean not only did the Ra'zak not even have to torture Slone to get the skinny on Eragon but Eragon and Durza didn't fight on Dragonback and Saphira didn't die. I'll freely admit that I know virtually nothing about filmmaking but even I probably could have done a better job with the Eragon movie. It would've been more faithful to the book if nothing else.
Yeah, agreed. I've decided to drag reading Brisingr out until book 4 comes out. I'm also thinking about reading the HP books before DH part 2 comes out, as I don't think I could read all seven before november.
Well my new bride still has to read the final HP book and she refuses to see the movie before she does. Fortunately I just reread the entire series earlier this year so when that time comes i'll be ready. But I'll wait for Maria since if possible I'd like to go with her.
Yeah, I hope to start reading them after DH part1 comes out. Hope I can read them all before part 2!
In all honesty, I was entertained by this particular series but not all that enchanted. You can tell the author is learning his craft from book to book, and for someone of his age and experience he's done a good job. I don't find the majority of his ideas terribly original or inspiring, honestly, but he still manages to tell a fairly interesting tale. The dwarves in book 3 and the elves in book 2 -really get on my nerves...Paolini wastes a lot of time, if you ask me. I also think that some of his depictions of battle are a bit on the ridiculous side (I'm thinking of a scene in book 3 with Roran (sp?), but won't spoil it).
Also, Gerard Doyle, or whatever his name is, rocks as an audiobook narrator. I love all the accents he does. And you'd never believe he's Irish to listen to him talk.
I agree about the Elves but I rather liked the Dwarves. I just don't like the preachy attitude the Elves adopt, particularly with regard to their training of Eragon. And while in real life i do try to respect people's views the Elves' veganism got on my nerves. And I believe I know the battle scene you refer to Shepherdwolf. And I don't think it was fair that Rauron was punished for tat since it was obvious that a lot more people would have been killed if it hadn't been for him. As for originality it's probably pretty hard to come up with a truly original story especially in the fantasy genre. The same general plot is always present. Evil villain wants to control eerything. The good guy, whether willing or not, has to stop him, her or it. Tolkien is and will always be the best or at least the premiere fantasy writer and one from which others in the genre draw at least some inspiration. My personal favorites are Terry Brooks (particularly his Landover books), David Eddings and yes, Paolini. I do agree that he wastes time sometimes but I stil agree he's done a very good job for someone of his age and experience. I just wish they'd done more justice to the novel with that damn movie. The only reason I enjoyed the movie was because I saw it before reading the book. I've actually toyed with the idea of trying to become a film director to make movies out of some of my favorite fantasy novels. I'm no expert but I think even I could have done a better job with the Eragon movie. The soundtrack was cool and some of the actors as well but the story was rather horrible.
And there's still been no news about the fourth book from what I've noticed. And I don't use Twitter so I can't follow him that way.
he doesn't have a twitter, only shurtugal.com does. and there hasn't been any more news on it lately. I wish he'd hurry up!
As do I. It's been nearly three years after all.

Excellent! Me want! LOL. Of course first I need to rip the other three for the IPod. Hopefully they won't fill up the entire 12 or so GB ta remain after the two albums I'm in the process of syncing. LOL.
Well, I read the latest book courtesy of Audible. Pretty good. And it does sort of leave room for a sequel, which Paolini has stated he MIGHT do at some point down the road.
Haven't read it yet... Still have to finish Brisingr.
That's a good one too LOL.
